| Project Title : | NECIL to Ramp up Coal Production in Assam |

| Project Detail : | Coal India unit North Eastern Coalfields (NECIL) which operates a coal mine in Margherita sub-division in Tinsukia district, is working to increase coal production from two lakh tonne to 15 lakh tpa. The increased production of coal will help meet the requirements of state-based industries. To achieve the same, coordinated action of the Revenue & Disaster Management, Environment & Forest, and Mines & Mineral Departments of the Assam government with NECIL will be undertaken. The government is also exploring ways to maximise exploration and utilisation of the coal resources to accelerate economic growth in the state and is keen on developing it as a sustainable and environmentally clean source of coal for relevant industries to reduce import of coal. To improve the livelihood of the mining workforce, the CIL authorities may identify schools and hospitals in the areas of mining and work on infrastructural development. The concerned district administrations will provide necessary assistance as and when CIL shares the proposal and meets the desired requirement of the government for the mining populace. |
