Contractors said they might require additional time for the project but the senior rung of the BMC was keen on making the road operational by December 2022 On September 25, 2018, the standing committee gave the project its go-ahead and several works were commissioned the next month. The contract condition of a 48-month deadline also set penalties for delay A BMC official said the municipal corporation was pushing for the contractors to make up for lost time and complete the project by December 2022, if not earlier A tunnel boring machine (TBM) of 12.19-metre width is expected to arrive from China in April via ship, said an official. "We need to ensure that by the time the TBM arrives the launching shaft is ready, so that once it reaches the site it can be lowered into the shaft," the official said The TBM has the national flag on it. It is to be lowered into the ground at Priyadarshani to come out at Marine Drive. tourism and environment minister Aaditya Thackeray visited four sites.
