Project Title : | Ring Roads Projects In Punjab |
Company Name : | Public Works Department ( Punjab) |
Project Detail : | The Public Works Department (PWD) has proposed rings roads — about 200 km in length — in four major cities of Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala and Mohali The PWD Minister, Vijay Inder Singla, said he had discussed the urgency of the ring roads during a recent meeting with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari In case of Ludhiana, the department has pointed out that the Jalandhar bypass and the southern bypass have come within the city. Since the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is already constructing Ladhowal bypass, connecting the Ludhiana-Ferozepur road with the National Highway 1, there is need to construct an 80-km-long section to complete the ring around Ludhiana For Patiala, the southern bypass as part of the four-laning of the Zirakpur-Patiala-Bathinda road has been completed. To complete the ring road around the city, a 17-km-long northern bypass has been sought As for Jalandhar, the NHAI had taken up the southern bypass to connect the Amritsar bypass with the Jalandhar-Nakodar and Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur highways. To complete the ring road around Jalandhar, there is need to construct another 15-km stretch. The department also sought a 75-km ring road around Chandigarh, connecting the Chandigarh-Nariangarh highway with the Kurali-Baddi road. “Since Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and Haryana, the road should be constructed on priority. It will decongest the tricity of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula,” Singla said Funding pattern Under the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the state govt and the Centre will equally share the cost of land acquisition for ring roads The Centre will also bear the cost of construction Since the state is not in a position to bear 50 per cent cost of land acquisition in a go, it expects to raise funds from stamp duty after land value of adjoining areas will increase once the ring roads are commissioned The govt will also earn through change of land use due to expected development along the ring roads |
