The proposed third investment program will increase domestic and international trade along Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Corridors. The outcome will be improved road connectivity and strengthening of institutional capacity within the Road Fund and the Road Research Institute. The outputs will be an approximately 364 km reconstructed road section of the A380 and regional highways, and improved project management, logistics, road asset management and road safety. The investment program will finance three separate projects. |
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy |
The proposed multi-tranche financing facility (MFF) for the Third Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Corridor 2 Road Investment Program (the Program) will rehabilitate about 394 km of highways in Republic of Karkalpakstan and Kashkadarya regions and support institutional development for road asset management in the country. This will directly complement another ongoing highway investment in Kazakhstan (supported by ADB) connecting Beyneu (a town on Uzbekistan's border) and the port of Aktau on the Caspian Sea. The Program will promote trade and tourism, and facilitate the economic and social development in these regions of Uzbekistan. |
