Description |
The TA aims to develop an efficient and safe road transport system in the project areas between Poti and Sarpi in the Ajara Autonomous Republic of Georgia. The TA's scope includes preparing a feasibility study and the design agreed to between the Government and ADB for the Ajara Bypass Roads Development Project. |
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy |
An ADB interim operational strategy for Georgia (2008-2009) currently under preparation identifies the reduction of road transport constraints on economic actvities as a priority area for ADB assistance. The TA is consistent with the proposed interim operational strategy. The TA is also consistent with the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) strategy, because the proposed bypass roads are part of the east?west highway, which is the extension of Corridor 2 identified in the recently developed CAREC Regional Transport Sector Strategy. |
