Project Detail:
This is a capacity expansion of existing Nigahi opencast coal mine project of Northern Coalfields Limited. The proposed production capacity expansion is from 21 Mtpa to 22.50 Mtpa of coal with a corresponding peak OB removal of 97.265 Mm 3 per year within the existing approved lease area of 3018.40 Ha.
Additional supply of coal to thermal power stations and other consumers to meet the increased energy demand in the country as per the new guidelines for granting Environmental Clearance (EC) under para 7(ii)(a) of EIA Notification, 2006, for expansion up to 50%, within the existing premises/mine lease area, without additional land acquisition.
Ensuring the projected demand of coal for Thermal Power Plants in the country, it is necessary to expand the capacity of the present Nigahi Opencast Project. This existing project is having the linkage with Vindhyachal Super TPS of NTPC and also serves as a Basket linkage mine to meet the overall demand of coal on NCL.
