| Project Detail : | The Maharashtra government has handed over possession of a 118-acre land parcel at Mukteshwar in the Malad-Malvani area of Mumbai to the Slum Rehabilitation Authority for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. Mumbai Suburban District Collector Saurabh Katiyar confirmed that the land will be used to rehabilitate residents who are not eligible for in-situ housing within Dharavi. Of the 140 acres earmarked at Mukteshwar, 118 acres have been transferred, while 22 acres remain under litigation. The land is valued at around Rs 540 crore, and the project’s special-purpose vehicle has paid Rs 135 crore as a premium for development rights, while ownership remains with the authority. A portion of the site will also be used for sale component housing in the open market. Overall, about 540 acres across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have been identified for the project. The plan aims to construct nearly 1.25 to 1.5 lakh homes to rehabilitate around 10 lakh residents, with each eligible household receiving a 350 sq. ft. unit under the Slum Rehabilitation Act. |
