| Project Detail : | The work on Ring Road 1 has finally begun as the Bathinda Improvement Trust (BIT) started clearing land for the project a few days ago On the directions of the Supreme Court, BIT removed encroachments on 2.5 acres of the total 3.5 acres for the road near the Cantonment police station A BIT team has issued notices to people regarding this. It is learnt that the work would continue this week and within a few days, all area for the road would be cleared Earlier, the Supreme Court passed an order in favour of BIT, but people again filed a petition over a few dispute sites Later, the court gave powers to the Deputy Commissioner to remove encroachments on the land and resolve the issue Ring Road will provide relief to residents from traffic congestion as entry of big vehicles will be banned There is an urgent need for construction of the ring road as with the setting up of Guru Gobind Singh Refinery and a power plant coming up at Talwandi Sabo, the volume of traffic on the city roads has increased greatly Heavy vehicles ply on GT Road causing fatal accidents. There is a severe problem of traffic congestion on Guru Kashi Marg The notification regarding the construction of the road was issued in January 2001 and funds for acquiring the land were released in January 2004 |
