Soon a team would inspect the site. With the IAF agreeing, one can expect the project to move ahead when it comes to the land acquisition process and other works," Mohapatra said Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced the new Pune airport, named after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje, at Purandar, around 45km from Pune, in late 2016. The project has not moved forward with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) Limited, the developer of the airport, awaiting a nod from the ministry of defence Suresh Kakani, the vice-chairman-cum-managing director of MADC, said that they had not received any communication about the clearance until now. "We will immediately follow-up on the latest development," he said Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said the design for the new terminal building of Lohegaon airport had been approved and its construction was expected to start from April Speaking to on the sidelines of the AAI's western region meet in the city, he said the design of the terminal building was impressive and would connect the existing terminal building of the facility. "We are aiming that the new building is ready within two-and-a-half years," Mohapatra said The land AAI got from the ministry of defence would be used to create an integrated cargo terminal. The new terminal building is expected to be 42,000sqm in size. It will come up towards the eastern side of the airport at a cost of about Rs 408 crore |
