Project Detail :Infrastructure firm Megha Engineering and Infrastructure (MEIL) has won a 2,000-MW Sharavathi pumped storage power project in Karnataka. This would involve an investment of Rs 8,000 crore.

The facility along Sharavathi river has a planned total power generation capacity of 2,000 MW, and it is the country's largest pump storage power generation unit. Sharavathi river is a vital source of hydroelectric power in the state. Through this project, the state aims to increase power generation through an innovative technology, based on pumping water through hydropower plants.

The competitive bidding process saw the participation of major players, including Larsen and Toubro (L&T). The Hyderabad-based firm won the bidding process, and secured the project. The contract was thus awarded to MEIL.
